Overview:
Restore your weather-exposed masonry with our PHL 5.0 Lime Repointing Mortar.
This premium concentrate, available in convenient quart and gallon sizes, is formulated with no Portland cement to replicate the performance, breathability, and historic characteristics of NHL 5.0 eminently hydraulic lime mortars.
By blending this lime mortar concentrate with locally sourced sand, you can create a historically accurate and exceptionally durable mortar for a long-lasting repair to masonry exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Key Features:
- Authentic PHL 5.0 Formulation: Our PHL 5.0 mortar is a pozzolanic lime mortar, a historically accurate blend of high-calcium lime and reactive clays (pozzolan). It is free of Portland cement, making it ideal for repairs on historic masonry originally built with eminently hydraulic lime mortar.
- Versatile Quart & Gallon Concentrates: Choose the size that suits your project needs, with each container yielding approximately 4 times its volume in ready-to-use mortar when combined with local sand.
- Enhanced Weather Resistance: The eminently hydraulic nature of PHL 5.0 provides superior resistance to weathering, making it ideal for exposed masonry like chimneys, parapets, and facades.
- Five Classic Colors: Select from white, gray, light buff, dark buff, or dark red to help match the original mortar color of your historic structure.
- Easy Mixing and Application: Simply combine the concentrate with sand and water according to the provided instructions for a smooth, workable mortar that is easy to apply.
Ideal Applications:
- Repointing historic brick and stone masonry built with eminently hydraulic lime mortar
- Repairing cracks, gaps, and deteriorated mortar joints in exposed masonry
- Matching historic mortar colors and textures in challenging environments
- Restoring the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of heritage buildings in harsh climates
Why Choose PHL 5.0 Lime Mortar?
Unlike modern cement-based mortars, which can be too rigid and trap moisture, our PHL 5.0 lime mortar offers the strength and durability of eminently hydraulic lime while still allowing your masonry to breathe. This makes it ideal for use in exposed locations where resistance to weathering is crucial. By using a historically accurate mortar with the appropriate hydraulic properties, you ensure the longevity and beauty of your restoration work, even in challenging conditions.
Important Note: PHL 5.0 is specifically designed for masonry exposed to high weathering conditions. For masonry in sheltered locations or requiring less strength, consider our PHL 2.0 or PHL 3.5 mortars.
Mixing Instructions:
- Combine one part PHL 5.0 concentrate with 2.5 to 3 parts clean masonry sand.
- Gradually add water until the desired consistency is achieved.
- Mix thoroughly until the mortar is smooth and homogenous.
Safety Precautions:
- Always wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and eye protection, when handling mortar.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines for proper mixing and application.
Invest in the preservation of your exposed masonry with our PHL 5.0 Lime-Based Repointing Mortar. Order your quart or gallon concentrate today and experience the difference that quality, authenticity, and exceptional weather resistance can make.

Let customers speak for us
from 144 reviewsSomeone rebuild our concrete steps at the top where they were pulling away from the house, but they did not use black mortar, they did a good job with the craftsmanship, but the mortar looked awful. Thanks to the stain from ProMason our steps look so good!.
The Mortar stain was amazing! Easy to apply and dramatically improved the appearance of our fireplace,. Allowing a DIY correction lof a mismatched, botched professional repair. More color choices would be helpful. Thank you.
I had a problem with the my first order of masonry stain. I was replaced quickly. Great customer service.
The masonry stain is a lifesaver! Love it! Before you freak out over the price it can be dilluted 3x water to stain and do so much coverage. My chaotic multicolor brown brick is now a beautiful warm whitish color. I got the cream masonry stain
I had a chaotic brown, red, cream and gray brick home feom the 70s and wanted to modernize it so I got the cream masonry stain and dilluted it 2x water to stain and did a wash and absolutely love the results. Great product!!!! Would love to show pics?
Great information on the website to select the right mortar for the job I am going to attempt. They also included a print out in the box with further instructions and advice. Fantastic!
Great product! Fast delivery. Ordered on Monday and received on Friday right on time for my weekend project.
I ordered samples for mortar stain, and plan to order gallons of the stain for our project. Ordering was easy and shipping was fast. The stain samples had leaked a little in shipment, but we had plenty to test the stain. The stain itself works perfect and cleans up easily and doesn't have a strong odor, which I was surprised by. I had a question about coverage and reached out to Pro Mason through the contact page. They were quick to respond, helpful and thorough in their reply. Would recommend the products and company to others.
I used the brick stain on two fireplaces. The first one I did using the cream color and it is perfect. For the second one, I used charcoal and it came out a bit dark. (Just like with paint, it starts out light and dries darker.) Because I preferred the color of the wet version of the stain, I decided to go back over it with a paint wash. It was sooooo much harder to do a paint wash! With the stain, it was much easier to get a consistent finish. I am sticking with ProMason for any of my future brick projects!
Really happy to have found this source for good historic masonry repair. I am very happy with the mortar and directions they sent, and their shipping was very fast too. I’m sure I will be a loyal customer for years to come.
Ordered 3 samples of brick stain. I’ve only done a sample of them on a brick yet the coverage on 2 of the 3 was excellent with only one coat with a brush. My middle color was a custom 50/50 mix of the other 2. The 3 rd stain sample didn’t make it to the final brick sampling.
I am entirely new to masonry, but I managed to repoint a section of my 300 year old stone foundation with lime mortar, and I’m very happy with the results. I was not able to find the appropriate mortar locally. Maybe a bit crude, but I bet it’ll hold up another hundred years!
