Restore the timeless beauty and structural integrity of your historic masonry with our PHL 3.5 Lime Mortar.
Preserving a historic building is a labor of love, whether you’re a professional mason or a homeowner dedicated to doing it right. Standard modern cement is often too rigid for older structures, trapping moisture and causing stone or brick to flake and crack over time.
Our PHL 3.5 Lime Mortar Concentrate is designed to respect the original craftsmanship of your building. It offers the same breathability and durability as traditional hydraulic lime, but in a flexible concentrate that you mix with local sand. This ensures your repair doesn't just look authentic—it functions exactly the way historic masonry was intended to.
Why PHL 3.5 is the Right Choice
- Built for Longevity: Unlike Portland cement, this pozzolanic lime blend allows your masonry to "breathe" and flex. This prevents moisture buildup and protects your walls from the damage caused by freeze-thaw cycles.
- The "Goldilocks" Strength: Rated at a 3.5 (moderate) strength, this formula is the versatile middle ground—stronger than our 2.0 for fragile brick, but more flexible than our 5.0 for high-exposure areas.
- Multiple Sizes Available: Choose from quart, gallon, 5-gallon, and bulk pallet quantities to match the scale of your job, from minor touch-ups to major restorations.
- Visual Accuracy: Choose from White, Gray, Light Buff, Dark Buff, or Dark Red to get a seamless match with your existing joints. Color packs are packaged separately with the mortar so you can add less pigment while mixing to adjust the shade of the mortar.
- User-Friendly: We’ve stripped away the complexity. Just follow the mixing ratios for sand and water to get a smooth, workable consistency that’s ready for the trowel.
Best Uses
- Repointing: Filling in aged or receding joints in historic brick and stone.
- Structural Health: Fixing cracks and gaps to stop water infiltration.
- Heritage Restoration: Maintaining the aesthetic and physical integrity of buildings originally constructed with lime-based mortars.
Mixing Instructions:
- Combine one part PHL 3.5 concentrate with 2.5 to 3 parts clean sand.
- Gradually add water until the desired consistency is achieved.
- Mix thoroughly until the mortar is smooth and homogenous. Mortar is ready to use right away.
Safety Precautions:
- Always wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and eye protection, when handling mortar.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines for proper mixing and application.
Invest in the preservation of your historic masonry with our PHL 3.5 Lime Repointing Mortar. Order your quart or gallon concentrate today and experience the difference that quality, authenticity, and breathability can make.

from 144 reviewsThe repointing product, the details on use and the delivery process was absolutely stellar. I couldn’t have asked for better.
Finally able to get the right mortar for repairs my 150 year old brick house!
Great to be able to buy small quantities so easily.
The people here went out of their way to help me find the right mortar, answered all my questions and even asked for pics to get it right. I will send them my business even if I could get it down the street I will order what I need from them. Keep up the great customer service.
I like the 1gallon size for special projects because it is easy to handle with very little mess.
Excellent service, lprompt shipping!
After researching lots of companies that make stain for brick I decided to contact Pro Mason for their professional advice. I went with a 4oz sample of antique gray, as suggested, and applied it to my exterior orange brick chimney. It went on nice and easy, has excellent coverage, and dried to a perfect match to my gray vinyl siding! I am currently waiting for the gallon size I ordered to finish the project.
I highly recommend this company for their customer service, shipping, and their quality products.
So far so good
This Pro-Mason dye has saved our floors!
Very long story short - a horrible experience with a contractor left us with badly effloresced brick on the interior floors of our addition. Cleaning the situation was very limited as it is a brick-on-sand installation and using more water (to rinse/flush any sort of acid cleansing) was out of the question. Scrubbed and cleaned as well as we could, then did a beautiful mix of 4:4:1 (after lots of sample mixing) dark red, dark orange, charcoal to put down a beautiful terra cotta-ish color on that floor. It looks amazing and will be getting sealed over the next couple of weeks.
Thank you Pro Mason!
My only suggest to anyone using the masonry dye product - stir, stir, and stir some more! The pigment does settle rather quickly.
Great product!
Someone rebuild our concrete steps at the top where they were pulling away from the house, but they did not use black mortar, they did a good job with the craftsmanship, but the mortar looked awful. Thanks to the stain from ProMason our steps look so good!.
The Mortar stain was amazing! Easy to apply and dramatically improved the appearance of our fireplace,. Allowing a DIY correction lof a mismatched, botched professional repair. More color choices would be helpful. Thank you.
I had a problem with the my first order of masonry stain. I was replaced quickly. Great customer service.
The masonry stain is a lifesaver! Love it! Before you freak out over the price it can be dilluted 3x water to stain and do so much coverage. My chaotic multicolor brown brick is now a beautiful warm whitish color. I got the cream masonry stain
I had a chaotic brown, red, cream and gray brick home feom the 70s and wanted to modernize it so I got the cream masonry stain and dilluted it 2x water to stain and did a wash and absolutely love the results. Great product!!!! Would love to show pics?
Great information on the website to select the right mortar for the job I am going to attempt. They also included a print out in the box with further instructions and advice. Fantastic!
