FAQ
Can I stain the inside of the firebox?
No. Stain the face and surround only. The firebox takes heat-rated products.
Which cleaner should I use?
Pro Mason All Surface Cleaner. Mix it 1:10 with water, scrub the surround, rinse, and let it dry before you stain.
Will it come out darker?
It depends on your brick or stone. Test a sample jar on a hidden spot and build color in light coats.
How much stain do I need?
Masonry Stain covers about 250–500 sq ft per gallon. The kit plans 250 for porous brick and stone. Most surrounds need a quart.
What does it cost?
Masonry Stain starts at $45 a quart, and a 4 oz sample jar is $12. All Surface Cleaner starts at $29.50 a quart.
What if a few joints are loose?
Fix those first with lime mortar, then stain. Most fireplaces just need a clean and a coat of color.
